Russian figure skaters
Evgenia Medvedeva,
Maria Sotskova and
Anna Pogorilaya are able to take all three prizes in women's single skating at the
World Championships 2017 which will be held in
Helsinki on March 29th.
This opinion was expressed by the honored trainer of the USSR and Russia Viktor Kudryavtsev, who worked with such titled sportsmen as the Olympic champion in 1998 Ilya Kulik and the world champion Maria Butyrskaya.
"The Russians are quite capable of taking all three prizes in Helsinki," said Kudryavtsev, "and the current world champion, Medvedeva, is the main contender for gold and this tournament."
In men's singles, Mikhail Kolyada and Maxim Kovtun will perform for Russia, in pairs - Ksenia Stolbova & Fedor Klimov, Evgenia Tarasova & Vladimir Morozov, Natalia Zabiyako & Alexander Enbert, in ice dancing - Ekaterina Bobrova & Dmitry Solovyov, Alexandra Stepanova & Ivan Bukin .
"It will be very difficult for our guys to compete in single skating," continued the coach, "in pair skating and ice dancing, we can count on silver and bronze." In the same dances, there are prerequisites for a successful performance by Bobrova and Solovyov. "
At last year's
world championship, held in Boston, gold went to
Medvedeva, bronze -
Pogoriloya. A pair of
Stolbova &
Klimov and a solitary
Kolyada took fourth places at that time.
